Here are some wonderful poems that our 7th Grade students wrote for Catholic Schools Week.

Faith. Academics. Service

With the faith that I have learned in school,

I learned to love Jesus and the golden rule.

Without His love we couldn’t cope,

What is this life without hope?

Every week when we go to Mass,

I say all the prayers we have learned in class.

I go to school so I can learn,

I need to participate and take my turn.

I study hard and do my best,

When I get my grades I feel very blessed.

If I don’t understand something in school one day,

I will ask if I can stay.

My teachers have taught me to be nice to others,

I was able to use this toward my grandmother.

I was there when the phone rang and she needed me most,

Grandpa had died so she held me close.

As we sat together that very night,

We thought we was in heaven,

I think we were right.

Faith. Academics. Service

Faith in God is most important

When His love I have as a constant

I may not understand his judgment

But He has my interest at the forefront

God’s pure love is a true statement

Jesus’ sacrifice has made the payment.

In math one learns the basics

Students add and subtract and work with metrics

English students produce limericks

Science helps kids with physics

And explains a matrix, double helix

My teacher teaches about non-fiction

And she wants me to use good diction.

When my community service is strong

I know for certain that I belong

Service is something we share

We do it because we care

Service hours are required

But my love for God is what’s desired.

Seventh graders have been getting adjusted to their new teachers and subjects this marking period. They are reading a variety of genres of literature, learning about American History from the time of the early Native Americans and early explorers. Soon they will be learning about Colonial America and the Revolutionary War. In Religion they are learning about Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life and are exploring the uniqueness of God, creation and Human Dignity.

In Language Arts, they are reviewing the parts of speech, writing songs, essays in various subjects and will soon delve into poetry. Recently they experienced a cross curricular assignment that included reading a biography or autobiography on an inventor/scientist for their science class. Then they extracted information from the book and prepared a visual presentation and became experts on their scientist/inventor. Each student presented their report in a small book chat format. Every student presented their book chats twice and viewed at least six other presentations. The students loved it and learned so much. They are anxious to apply their presentation skills for future projects.
