St. Peter’s Athlete Code of Conduct
As an athlete representing St. Peter School, the athlete will adhere to the following:
1. An athlete will treat his/her teammates, coaches, referees and/or officials, opponents, spectators and all others involved in our athletic events with respect at all times.
2. An athlete will make school and academics their first priority.
3. An athlete will give his/her best efforts at all times at both practices and games. An athlete will give their full attention to his/her coach, and do their best to follow their instruction.
4. An athlete will remember that he/she represents St. Peter’s school and their team. As a result, the athlete’s behavior, both on and off the athletic playing field, will reflect Catholic values and morality.
5. An athlete will encourage and support his/her teammates.
St. Peter’s Coaches Code of Ethics
1. A coach must be a positive role model for the players and parents and reflect the values of a good Christian man/woman.
2. The coach will recognize that he/she is coaching grammar school sports. The coach’s main priority therefore is not to win, but to build the character and develop the skills of his/her players. The coach shall strive to instill in every child a sense of self esteem, responsibility, self discipline and love of the game through an emphasis on personal effort, fair play, teamwork, leadership, and respect for the rules of game.
3. A coach will never place the value of winning or his/her own personal satisfaction above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character that are consistent with a Catholic School Education. The coach will emphasize to his players that, win or lose, the team and players are successful if they have tried their very best.
4. A coach will devote time, thought, planning and study to the rules of the game and be prepared for all games and practices.
5. Coaches are responsible for the good conduct and behavior of their players, team staff and spectators at games.
6. Coaches will always emphasize that academics are the player’s first priority.
7. A coach will teach the children, primarily through his own behavior, that both opponents and officials are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity. A coach will not indulge in conduct that will incite players or spectators against the officials or opponents.
