Reduce your Tuition Bill!

The SCRIP program was started in 1999 by a dedicated parent, parishioner and St.Peter alumni, Cyndi Brandt. St. Peter families and friends have reduced their tuition bills by over $50,000 and at the same time earned money for the school.

SCRIP is a program that allows you to earn money toward your child’s education through the purchase of gift cards. When you use these gift cards, a portion of the money goes into an account to be used toward your child’s education.

Get involved for next school year! It only takes a little planning!

How to Get Started

Each September, a small brown envelope is sent home to each school family. The envelope is marked “SCRIP Only” and has a label with the family/children’s names and classroom on it. An order form is included in the envelope along with ordering instructions. You can also download and print your scrip order form by clicking here.

To order SCRIP, please place a completed order form along with your payment inside the small, brown envelope. We will do our best to complete the order and send it home the same day. If there is an item ordered which is out of stock, we will order it for you. Orders are placed with Great Lakes on Sunday and arrive at school on Tuesdays. Any backorders are sent home on Tuesdays. For local businesses, such as Costa’s and Meadowbrook, we can have the SCRIP in a day or two.

It is important to include a daytime phone number on your order sheet, in case we have reason to contact you. You will receive a receipt with each order. Unless otherwise specified, we send the order home with the youngest child in the family.

We list the most popular items on the SCRIP form. For a complete list of participating retailers, visit Great Lakes Scrip website.

Also listed on the SCRIP ordering form, is the percent return for each participating business. Each family will receive 50% of the profit toward the upcoming school year tuition. For example, if you order $100 in ShopRite which has a 5% return, you will receive $2.50 in tuition credit for the upcoming school year’s tuition. The remaining $2.50 will go to the school.

Scrip is a term that means "substitute money"

When St. Peter parishioners purchase scrip, they're purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. The scrip is issued by the national and local retailers where many of our St. Peter families already shop. These merchants want to support non-profit organizations like our school, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with scrip at their stores. St. Peter parishioners can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, they earn revenue for our school.

How scrip generates revenue for you

The Great Lakes Scrip center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. St. Peter School buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to our parishioners for full face value. The bulk of the discount - from two to fifteen percent or more - is retained by our school as revenue.

Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising"

The reason for the effectiveness of scrip is simple: families generate revenue through purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip. An organization of 150 families easily spends between one and two million dollars per year on food, clothing and other essentials. If these families use scrip for these purchases, they can raise as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per year for their organization --without spending an additional penny.
