Who sets the tuition rates?

The Camden Diocese establishes parameters within which the individual parishes may set their tuition rates. For instance, for the 2011/2012 school year, the Diocese advised St. Peter that we could set tuition rates for the first child between $3,950.00 and $4,350.00. St. Peter chose the lowest tuition rate allowed by the Diocese.

Q. I heard that Catholic schools in the Camden Diocese were significantly increasing tuition rates yearly so that parents would soon be paying full tuition, i.e. the actual cost of educating a child. Is this true?

A. This is false. Full tuition was considered, but was rejected.

Q. If tuition does not equal the full cost of educating a child, and there also is financial aid available, who subsidizes the cost of educating the children?

A. The parish subsidizes the cost of tuition. The actual cost to educate a child is approximately $5,000.00 Thus, the parish contribution in subsidy and financial aid to educate your child is significant. Last year, the parish of St. Peter contributed on average $990.00 per pupil ($294,993.00 in total) to educate children in the school.

Q. Public schools have substantial resources and I pay real estate taxes. Is a Catholic school education really a wise investment for my child?

A. A Catholic School education is worth the cost. It's money wisely spent. Your child's tuition is an investment which pays lifelong tangible and intangible dividends. Catholic Schools represent affordable excellence; there is an emphasis on efficiency and accountability. In addition to a strong program in the "basics," as well as challenging programs for gifted students, Catholic Schools add the significant "plus" of religious, moral, and spiritual development. Standardized test scores and a college acceptance rate of 97% reflect that our students are self-disciplined, self-motivated, responsible, and creative. There is a mutual respect in Catholic Schools among the students, faculty, and administrators which generates an atmosphere of care, concern and respect.
